Connecticut Mental Health Center

The Connecticut Mental Health Center is an urban community mental health center with an exceptional 30-year tradition of serving individuals with serious mental illness and is the lead agency for the Community Services Network.  Founded in 1966, CMHC cares for more than 5,000 people a year in a variety of services, and treats individuals suffering from severe and persistent psychosis, depression, anxiety, addictions (including alcoholism, cocaine, and gambling) and those with  co-existing mental health and addiction problems.  CMHC also operates outreach programs for individuals who are homeless, who are at serious risk for mental illness, or involved with the criminal justice system. CMHC is also responsible for a  specialized clinical service  for people whose primary language is Spanish.  Clinical services are complemented by a range of rehabilitation programs designed to improve functioning and quality of life. Satellite Clinics

The Hispanic Clinic – Substance abuse interventions, mental health treatment, intensive outpatient, family psychoeducation, alcohol prevention, and peer support services offered in a bilingual/bicultural context to Spanish-speaking individuals and families.

Community-Based Case Management

Outreach and Engagement Project – Community based program providing outreach to individuals who have experienced barriers to engaging or sustaining involvement in mental health or substance abuse treatments. Case management is often provided in non-traditional settings such as shelters and soup kitchens.

The Assertive Community Treatment Team – Program providing intensive outreach, case management and clinical care to individuals who have prolonged forms of mental illness and who demonstrate both severe clinical instability and difficulty adjusting to community living.
