New Haven Home RecoveryEstablished in 1990 as provider of emergency shelter for families, New Haven Home Recovery Inc. is working in the New Haven area to address the housing and support service needs of women with children. NHHR provides emergency shelter services, supportive housing, basic needs and clinical services to over 700 homeless women and children annually. HousingEmergency Homeless Shelter – Offers on-sight staffing, 24 hours/7 days per week, food pantry, case management, housing location and advocacy, vocational services and clinical services. CareWays Shelter for Women and Children - CareWays provides shelter to women and their children forced to leave permanent housing due to lead paint poisoning, domestic violence, legal eviction, family eviction, fire, new residency in the state, and/or any other cause of homelessness. We provide families with a clean, safe place to stay while they put the pieces of their lives back together. We provide on-site food pantry, vocational services, after school program, tutoring services, computer lab and summer field trips.
Martha's Place : Martha's Place shelters predominantly single women with myriad social issues and a range of needs. As such, the delivery of service and philosophy remain the same. The shelter staff work with clients on an individual basis to provide a quality living environment while also assisting women in the location of suitable housing and supports. On site services include a food pantry, vocational counseling, housing advocacy, clinical services and follow up case management.
Transitional Housing Programs Homeless Families Transition Collaborative–This is a HUD funded program, that provides unique collaborative venture offering women and their children who are living in family shelters in New Haven the opportunity to access supportive services. New Haven Home Recovery’s Transitional Housing Program (THP) provides 10 subsidies for up to 24 months for those women who present both a need and willingness to participate in support services. New Haven Home Recovery supervises a full-time Case Manager and rental subsidies through a sub-contract with the Connecticut Women’s Consortium. Collaborative partners include: CT Women's Consortium, Life Haven, Christian Community Action, and The APT Foundation.
Supportive Housing for Families Program – This DCF funded program provides subsidized housing and intensive case management to primary caregivers who have successfully completed inpatient or intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment and are working toward reunification with their children under DCF care. In total, the program covers Groton/New London, Middletown, Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven. The case managers, along with DCF social workers and substance abuse providers, partner to provide a stable home where women can reunite with their children. Collaborating partners include: ALSO-Cornerstone, Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis and The Connection, Inc. Permanent Housing Programs Supportive Housing Program for Families with HIV/AIDS – This program primarily serves women with children who are heads of household and have HIV/AIDS (male heads of household and families have also been served). SHP provides supported housing, case management services, substance abuse/mental health counseling, independent living counseling, housing advocacy, information and referral services, and resources for persons with HIV/AIDS and their service providers. In addition, New Haven Home Recovery owns and manages eight units of affordable family housing for persons with HIV/AIDS. Named Lucht Hall, it is the first permanent housing project with supports for families in the State of Connecticut, and is funded in part through the Shelter Plus Care Program.
New Haven Family Partnership – This DMHAS funded program helps families who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, and have a disability including substance abuse, mental health issues or HIV/AIDS. Supportive services in the form of intensive case management are coupled with a permanent housing subsidy. Collaborating partners include: ALSO-Cornerstone, Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis and The Connection, Inc.
ClinicalNHHR's Clinical Coordinator, provides bio-psychosocial assessments to all clients entering NHHR programs. One to one counseling and group support to individuals and families who are living at the shelters and/or in supportive housing programs are included. NHHR’s Wellness Counselor is located at the Women in Crisis shelter and provides clinical support, outreach and engagement to women living in the shelter.
