Postdoctoral Fellowship
Supportive Housing Program & Public Mental Health Administration

The Yale University School of Medicine will offer two Postdoctoral Fellowship positions at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

The position consists of a weekly division of about 70% clinical work and 30% involvement in training focused on public sector mental health administration. The position is part of a major HUD-funded Supportive Housing Program (SHP) that serves adults who are homeless with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. The program is administered by the Community Services Network of CMHC and the Department of Psychiatry, and is a comprehensive, fully integrated, coordinated, multi-agency transitional supportive housing program that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, transitional housing, social and vocational rehabilitation, and related community-based housing initiatives. In addition, fellows participate in administrative activities and didactics designed to enhance leadership and management skills.

Fellowship Components

  • Community-based treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders;
  • Advanced training and supervision in individual and group psychotherapy;
  • Seminars focused on public mental health administration, leadership in mental health systems, and healthcare leadership;
  • Educational collaboration with the Yale School of Management and VA Medical Center-West Haven;
  • Access to departmental training opportunities including grand rounds;
  • Exposure to state and university leaders in the public mental health sector with opportunities for mentoring; and
  • Project work including:
    • Design and delivery of mental health-related trainings
    • Performance of consultation projects
    • Research
    • Participation in system strategic planning and performance improvement
